papermache vase

110x100x100cm

This monumental paper-mâché vase, is a deeply personal exploration of healing, release, and transformation. Referencing the human bladder, both as an organ and a metaphorical vessel, the work reflects the artist’s lifelong experience with kidney-related health challenges.
The inspiration came from a vivid dream in which the artist, while urinating in the shower, expelled locust-like creatures. In the dream, she carefully examined these beings, an act that felt both unsettling and symbolic, like giving birth to something strange yet meaningful. This dream resonated deeply with themes of fertility, healing, and the necessity of letting go. The vessel’s elongated, neck-like form mirrors the bladder’s function as a container for holding and releasing, while its exaggerated scale emphasizes the emotional weight of what we carry within. Spiritually, the work also speaks to cycles of transformation. It suggests that what we expel-whether physical waste or emotional burden- an also hold the seeds of renewal and rebirth. The hollow vessel, an archetypal symbol of containment invites the viewer to consider their own processes of retention, healing, and surrender.
