Larissa Klerx is a german-born artist, currently studying at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. Her multidisciplinary practice encompasses sculptural and installation-based art. The realm of art stems from a background in fashion design, where she embarked on a transformative exploration of textile materials, delving into their expressive potential beyond traditional garment construction. Her artistic inquiry centers on an interplay of physicality, raises questions of identity, feminism, and becomes visual through the negotiation of present versus the absent. Marked by organic, rounded forms that eschew sharp edges, Klerx’s pieces establish an immediate bodily connection, prompting contemplation of human dimensions and spatial relationships. Her practice is characterized by a dynamic dialogue between materials, as she experiments with contrasting textures and surfaces. Whether juxtaposing rough concrete with sensual fabrics or integrating personal artifacts like mirrors, clothing size rings, or fragments of familial textiles, her work elicits a range of sensory and emotional responses; evoking themes of memory, desire, and longing. These unexpected material combinations provoke tension and intrigue. As they generate unexpected narratives, her work aims to challenge conventional perceptions and inviting viewers to reassess their understanding of the familiar. In her installations, Klerx creates immersive environments that blur the boundaries between reality and illusion, inviting exploration of both physical and psychological space.
